Conservation Zambezi (CZ) supports and implements conservation of the biodiversity, wildlife and habitat of the Zambezi River and Basin. CZ was established in 1992 as a UK Registered Charity (no: 1021531). Staffed by dedicated volunteers, it has helped to create a secure zone for black rhinos (the Matusadona Intensive Protection Zone - MIPZ) and it has continued to support the black rhino, cheetah, and elephant conservation programmes in the Zambezi Valley. As a key player in the emergency programme to rescue the black rhino from extinction in the Zambezi Valley CZ supported the pioneer programme of black rhino calf relocation and rearing in the MIPZ. CZ also provided essential material and logistical support to the then National Parks for their rangers in the field, and continues to this day to do so for the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe. CZ has provided, and continues to deliver, essential equipment for field conservation and security operations, such as boots, back packs, rations, GPSs and other camping equipment. It has also purchased a boat and an aircraft and provided many vehicles to support field conservation operations and to enable effective wildlife management and research. CZ provided funding for, and continues to fund, educational and wilderness awareness initiatives in the Zambezi Basin.
Formerly known as The Zambezi Society (UK) CZ has, since a 2006 re-organisation, focused on:
- specialist field conservation skills and wildlife protection training to Parks and Wildlife rangers in the Victoria Falls, Zambezi, and Matusadona National Parks
- the provision and upgrading of educational facilities to the children of these staff in their remote locations
- the provision of essential water, reticulation, and building improvements in Matusadona National Park
- emergency support to the Wildlife Veterinary Unit to enable immediate response to crises
In June 2009 Conservation Zambezi formally allied with

The Tashinga Initiative
which is now its implementing partner in Zimbabwe.
